Merrill Lynch Investment Managers has laid off most of its work force in Singapore, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal. The firm had 30 workers located there. Mother Merill is looking to merge most of its Asian operations with its emerging-markets division headquartered in London.

Brooks Brothers, a cornerstone clothier for those who work in financial services, has been bought by Retail Brand Alliance, which also owns Casual Corner. The previous owner was British chain Marks & Spencer, according to Crain's New York. The deal was reportedly for $225 million.
