Schwab Summertime Blues


According to The Wall Street Journal, shares of of stock in Charles Schwab Corporation hit a 52-week low yesterday. The stock closed yesterday at $13.28, losing 55 cents of its value for the day. Schwab's woes are blamed on the trading slump.

Delaware Investments has named Mitchell L. Conery to be the portfolio manager for three of its funds: the Voyageur Minnesota Municipal Income Fund, Voyageur Minnesota Income Fund II, and Voyageur Minnesota Municipal Income Fund III.

The NDCC is asking for its members to make nominations for its award, "Retirement Savings Advocate of the Year". Nominations are due August 27, 2001.

Small business owners, according to a new survey by Greenwald & Associates, lack knowledge about 401(k) plans and are less likely to offer them. While 71% of all business owners say they understand 401(k)'s, only 49% of small business owners reported the same. There is apparently some debate as to whether this group does not understand plans so do not offer them or whether this group does not offer 401(k) plans and therefore lacks knowledge of them.

The Principal Financial Group has received stellar grades in a study conducted by Boston Research Group. 2,000 401(k) plan sponsors were surveyed for the study. The study measured client satisfaction for recordkeeping, statements, investments, education, and other services.
