Tuesday, May 1, 2001 Sage Adds Sector Portfolios Another insurer fell to Invesco's VA placement pitch: Sage Life Assurance of America added three sector portfolios and a blue chip growth portfolios to its investment lineup. * * * Sun Life has added the five following asset managers to its Futurity portfolio of variable annuities: Alliance Capital, Fidelity, Invesco, Neuberger Berman, and Rydex. * * * Farmers New World Life Insurance has formed alliances with the following firms to offer investment sub-accounts for the company's variable annuity and universal life products: Fidelity, Dreyfus, Calvert, WM Group, and Goldman Sachs. * * * American Century has begun a 31-day subscription period to offer C shares of its mutual funds. They are being sold through financial intermediaries. * * * Stanley Peterson has been named managing director for the newly created national accounts department at Manulife. This department is intended to provide broker/dealers with a single source of information about the firm's business lines. The executive formerly served at Merrill Lynch as a first vice president and senior director, and he was the national sales director of the insurance group. * * * The House Ways and Means Committee and the House Education Committee voiced their approval to the ERISA portions of the Portman-Cardin bill yesterday.
