Janus Parent Names CFO


Fidelity International has named Thomas Balk, 35, as president for its mutual fund business in continental Europe and the United Kingdom. Balk had previously headed the firm's German funds, that position has not yet been filled. He replaces Phil de Cristo, head of mutual funds for continental Europe, who is is returning to Boston for family reasons, according to published reports.

Stilwell Financial, the parent of Janus and Berger Funds, has named Daniel P. Connealy as vice president and chief financial officer. Connealy recently retired as a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers after more than 32 years. He had specialized in service to asset managers and related fund companies.

Janus has launched the Janus Global Value Fund managed by Jason Yee. The non-diversified equity fund follows a value mandate and will be distributed both directly and through Charles Schwab & Company during a subscription period that runs through June 29, 2001.

Wayne Hummer Investments has hired Lawrence Doody, as senior investment executive. He will manage a wide range of investment and insurance services for both individuals and institutions, said Bob Stuber, sales manager.

Prudential has lured Steve Buell from Dreyfus. Buell had served Dreyfus as director of global equity research. At Pru he reports to Michael Shea, president of the equity group.
