Is Foliofn Looking Eastward?

Foliofn has received strategic investments from two new sources: Advent Software and the Seichou Technology Fund. The Vienna, Virginia firm would not disclose the dollar values of the investments.

While the firm's relationship with Advent has been well-known since an announcement last month, the Seichou Technology Fund draws Foliofn's compass strongly eastward. The Fund is a Nomura investment asset.

"It's a private equity vehicle," said a Nomura spokesperson, who declined further comment on the fund's investing criteria. Based in Tokyo, Nomura is a once-dominant investment banking firm that has been scarred by a 1997 scandal involving three high-level executives.

The fiscal and strategic involvement of a large Asian player indicates that Foliofn is seeking to broaden its exposure as much as deepen it.

“We are equally enthusiastic that an investment asset owned by Nomura, one of the world’s premier global investment banks, has participated in this round," said Steven M.H. Wallman, founder and chief executive officer of Foliofn, in a statement. "We’ve been talking with a number of prospective international partners, and we are excited about our expansion opportunities."
