What Do Marketers Make?

Bonuses are being calculated, beginning an inevitable period of employee turnover. How does your compensation compare with national averages? Are you paying your subordinates fair amounts? How will your department change after the numbers have been digested?

Buck Consultants (New York City) answers with the most recent annual salary survey for the mutual fund industry, compiling averages from 35 mutual fund companies for 3,200 employees. The survey ranges from the chief executive officer to the marketing department donkey-worker, and covers the executive, sales, back-office, IT, and administrative staffs, among others.

The more factoid-worthy numbers include the average increase in base salaries (9.0%), the total compensation average increase (10.7%), the average retail branch manager's total cash compensation ($200,700), and the head of marketing's base salary ($137,900).

After bonuses the typical head of marketing earns $205,000 annually.
