Palm Reading

Palm Pilot users with wireless access will be able to research NAV performance, look up account histories, and even buy and sell funds when RS Funds enables its wireless delivery method by the end of the month.

"Lots of our shareholders are tech-oriented," said Robert Morris, vice president of E-commerce. "We can't just hold this technology and not use it."

This is especially the case when the wireless service, like the streaming video feature introduced earlier this week, is almost free: DST includes both templates and service as part of their service agreement.

The nature of the internet's changing technology keeps feature launches frequent, yet RS Funds will implement future improvements cautiously. Currently, technologies under consideration include site personalization, increasing the features for broadband users, and account aggregation.

"Some of the worst fund sites out there are the ones with too much technology," said Morris. "You need to make sure that you're leading people through the process clearly and intuitively... we're competing with everyone on the Web."
