The Fleet Gets More Admirals

The Vanguard Group has added Admiral Shares to thirteen bond funds, both taxable and non-taxable.

Fees for the loyalty share class range from thirteen to twenty-four basis points, undercutting Vanguard's notoriously low Investor Share fees. In some cases, the Admiral Share fee carries about half of the usual fee, which ranges from nineteen to thirty-two basis points.

The funds getting the new share class are:

  • Vanguard Short-Term Treasury
  • Vanguard Short-Term Federal
  • Vanguard Short-Term Corporate
  • Vanguard Intermediate-Term Treasury
  • Vanguard Intermediate-Term Corporate
  • Vanguard GNMA
  • Vanguard Long-Term Treasury
  • Vanguard Long-Term Corporate
  • Vanguard Municipal Short-Term
  • Vanguard Municipal Limited-Term
  • Vanguard Municipal Intermediate-Term
  • Vanguard Municipal Long-Term
  • Vanguard Municipal Insured Long-Term
In order to qualify for Admiral Shares, an investor must meet certain investment requirements, as high as $250,000 for initial accounts, and as low as $50,000 for decade-old accounts.
