Give and Take, Courtesy of Wiesenberger

Wiesenberger is known for collecting and distributing information on mutual funds. Starting this month, the company will be sending information about site users back to the funds who subscribe to InvestmentView.net.

Approximately thirty fund and insurance companies license Wiesenberger's presentation generator, which allows users to put together customized presentations on-line based on desired asset allocation models within the fund family. In the month of November, 60,000 presentations were generated for fund and insurance company clients with the company's engine.

"One of the exciting things we're doing now is providing information on who is using the sites, what the presentations are and what the dollar amounts are," said Bill Chambers, president of Wiesenberger. "They tell us if they're running it for a particular client, they'll know the client name, the dollar amounts, and the broker's name."

InvestmentView.net, which mirrors the older and more broadly used PC-based product, has the advantage of operating over the Internet, where information can be harvested about users. Chambers said that users can operate the utility without revealing their own names or clients' names, but they may not even be aware that the information will end up back with the funds.

"The product doesn't specifically say that, but I think that they would know that because they're on that company's Web site," said Chambers. "And I'd think in most cases they'd be happy with that in the sense that if the mutual fund company can proactively help them, making them aware of a new piece of marketing literature or something that might help them out in what they're doing, that they might be happy with the return response back."
