Vanguard Revises Distribution Estimates

Vanguard has upped its estimate of the number of equity and balanced funds that will make distributions this year. The fund firm announced its first round of estimates in September.

Earlier Vanguard reported that just 27 of 54 funds would make distributions based on information through August. Now it estimates that the number making distributions has risen to 39 of the 54. Of the funds making distribution, twenty-three will have gains of less than five percent. Eleven funds creep into the five-ten percent range, and five funds will probably distribute more than ten percent of their NAV.

The five portfolios included making the largest distributions are the Explorer Fund, U.S. Growth Fund, Windsor Fund, Strategic Equity Fund, and SmallCap Index Fund.

Vanguard is also making the estimates available on the company's Web site and through its literature explaining the tax consequences of mutual funds.
