Fortis Fortifies Its Broker/Dealer Channel

Donald Benson is the new head of Fortis Financial Group's sales to independent broker/dealers. He'll be in charge of a nationwide team of regional vice presidents and account managers.

"I'm in charge of building a wholesale team right now," says Benson. "It's something I'm not sure Fortis has been very good at before." Since he joined the company at the end of April, Benson has already hired three wholesalers. He intends to add 2-3 more in the next 30-60 days, and three more in the first half of 2001. The new hires will concentrate their work on the East and West coasts.

Benson joins the Woodbury, Minn. firm as a divisional vice president and will report to Roger Arnold, senior vice president of sales. Previously, Benson spent 10 years as a vice president of sales and marketing for ReliaStar.
