Harris Adds Transactions

Now investors in the Oakmark Family of Funds are able to access their account information and conduct transactions through the firm's Web site at www.Oakmark.com. Kelly Arnold, assistant director of marketing at Chicago-based Harris Associates, explained that the service was rolled out in the past few days in response to investor demand. Harris is the advisor to the funds.

Although investors will not be able to open accounts through the site, that capability is something that the firm has "talked about" adding in the future, Arnold revealed. She added that the firm is also working on adding more information from portfolio managers to the site. Investors can add new money to the funds if they have created a link between the fund company and their bank account.

The no-load fund firm used Oakland, California-based Simplexity (http://www.Simplexity.net) to assist with the creation of the new transaction capabilities for the site. Simplexity has advised on a number of fund firm Web sites, including: Fremont Funds, Montgomery Funds, AIB Govett, Dodge & Cox Funds, Matthews International Funds, RS Funds and Stein Roe & Farnham Private Capital Management.

Investors have been able to access account information on the seven no-load funds since 1985, said Arnold. The firm launched a new look to the site in July and has been promoting the new features through stuffers in quarterly mailings and in the message from the chairman in the funds' annual reports.
