Merrill Corporation Marches East

Merrill Corporation is a printing and document management company for the mutual fund and variable annuities industries based in St. Paul, Minn. The company, which is attempting to expand its presence in the East, bought Somerville, Mass.-based Ames On-Demand, the printing division of the Ames Safety Envelope Company.

Merrill is making a "big push" into Boston and the Northeast, according to Bill Collins, who is in charge of integrating Merrill and Ames. The Ames acquisition is Merrill's second recent move into the area. Last year, Merrill bought Daniels Printing, a printing company based in Everett, Mass. The current combined entity is known as Merrill/Daniels.

"Merrill has a state-of-the-art facility in St. Cloud, Minn. We'll be bringing some of those systems into the Ames facility.," said Collins. "Mutual fund companies in the area have certain requirements for fulfillment and distribution, and hopefully this will give us an edge."
