American Express Hires Franklin Portfolio Manager

American Express named Lisa Costa the senior portfolio manager of the AXP Growth Fund. Costa was previously at Franklin Templeton, where she was manager of the Franklin Asset Allocation Fund and the Templeton SICAV U.S. Equity Fund, as well as co-manager of the Franklin Dynatech Fund.

Costa was chosen because of her expertise in growth funds. The AXP Growth Fund focuses on large-cap growth companies, and has $8.5 billion under management.

Costa replaces Mitzi Malevich, who retired after managing the fund since 1992.

"Lisa's vast experience investing in growth stocks in general and technology companies in particular should allow her to build on AXP Growth's impressive momentum," said Joe Barsky, vice president, equity investments, American Express. "We expect her to use an investment approach similar to the one that has served Mitzi and our shareholders so well over the years."
