Heartland Management Moves


Heartland Advisors has hired a new senior vice president and director of equity research, Gerry Sandel, formerly from Stein Roe. In his new position, Sandel will be heading up Heartland's team of equity analysts and conducting research on mid and large cap companies that fit Heartland's value criteria. He will also co-manage the $6 million Large Cap Value Fund and the $17 million Mid Cap Value Fund.

    • Heartland is also bidding farewell to the previous co-managers of the Value and Large Cap Value Funds, Dr. Michael Berry and James Holmes who will be leaving the funds "to pursue other opportunities."

    In addition, the Milwaukee-based fund company is filing to make several changes to its funds. The changes, yet to be voted on by shareholders, include changing the name of the Large Cap Value Fund to the Heartland Select Value Fund and liquidating the Mid Cap Value Fund.
