Babson Manager Retires

Roland "Nick" Whitridge, is retiring from the portfolio management of the Babson Value Fund, the cornerstone fund of the Babson family of funds, one of the two proprietary fund groups of Jones & Babson. Whitridge, who had managed the Fund since its inception in 1984, is stepping down due to concerns about his health.

Whitridge, 61, has handed control of the $1.3 billion portfolio to Tony Maramarco, a senior vice president, portfolio manager and senior member of the Fund's management team since 1996. Maramarco will also step into Whitbridge's management role for the Shadow Stock Fund, assisted by Catherine Ryan.

"This is the most difficult decision I've ever had to make. I am reluctant about leaving a wonderful career," said Whitridge, "but health concerns have forced me to realign my priorities to have more time to concentrate on my well-being and be with my family."

"We're saddened by this news. Nick's keen sense of humor, wit and charm will be missed," said Rui Moura, vice president for sales and marketing at Jones & Babson, Inc. "Nick has been the cornerstone of the Babson fund family, yet there is no question in my mind that Tony is eminently qualified to lead this team in the years ahead. The Babson Value portfolio and investment style won't change."
