Schwab Investors Plan Balanced Mutual Fund Investing

Charles Schwab & Co. has released the second in a series of survey results, polling 1900 of Schwab's investors in order to determine their investing habits and uncover any recent changes in those habits. Approximately 800 of the 1900 members of Schwab's Mutual Interest Council responded to the survey.

More than half (54%) of the respondents indicated that they would be buying more shares of the index funds they own or buying into new index funds. Thirty-nine percent also plan on increasing the amount they have invested in mutual funds, while 50% say they will maintain the level of mutual fund investment.

"Institutional money managers have practiced this kind of investing for years," said Mark Riepe, head of the Schwab Center for Investment Research, "using indexing to get broad market exposure and active management in an attempt to reach for market outperformance."
