AMEX and Fidelity Team Up

American Express and Fidelity Investments have joined forces to offer certain clients a new American Express Fidelity Gold Card. Customers who have accounts with Fidelity's brokerage services -- providing they have cash balance of $30,000 -- may apply. The $75 annual fee for the card will be paid by the Boston firm.

Any purchases or cash withdrawals an individual makes will be debited from that individual's brokerage account and will appear on a monthly consolidated statement.

Other features available include a 24-hour hotline for emergency assistance, special events, and other benefits with certain retailers. There is also a membership rewards programs, where customers earn points for dollars spent.

The card will be ready for use in June 1999. A similar Platinum Card will be rolled out in July 1999.

"We are committed to providing our brokerage customers with the best possible product and services, and we believe that this new card offering with American Express is exactly what our customers want. It will help customers simplify their personal financial management and is another reason for them to consolidate their assets with Fidelity," said Stephen A. Cone, president of Fidelity Customer Marketing and Development.
