PIMCO Hires New Emerging Markets Manager

PIMCO Advisors Holdings L.P. (PA) has hired Mohamed A. El-Erian, formerly with Salomon Smith Barney, as executive vice president and senior emerging markets portfolio manager of its fixed-income unit, Pacific Investment Management Company, the largest U.S. bond manager.

El-Erian will be joining PIMCO from Salomon Smith Barney in London where he headed the emerging markets economic research team. Prior to that, El-Erian had been deputy director of the International Monetary Fund.

"Mohamed brings to us a notable record of accomplishments in emerging markets," said PIMCO Chief Executive Officer William S. Thompson. "He will be a great addition to our existing team of fixed income experts, as we continue to search the world for opportunities to add value for our clients."
