College Savers Get Ed


Vanguard has published a pamphlet expaining college savings plan to individuals. The "Plain Talk" bulletin (called "New Ways to Boost Your") explains how the new tax law enables college savings through 529 plans and education IRAs.

InvestorForce now claims a private plan sponsor has selected AIM as an investment manager through its search process. The plan sponsor was CIBA Specialty Chemicals. AIM will oversee $80 million of the chemical company’s pension portfolio in large cap core investments. The bulk of the searches announced by the firm had been public sector plans.

Half of American say that they will alter their investment strategy if their account balance falls during 2001, according to a CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services survey. The questionaire was sent after the September 11 attacks. Seventeen percent of respondents said they'll invest in more conservative assets; 15 percent said they'll save a higher percentage of their salary; 10 percent said they'll invest in more aggressive assets; and 5 percent will stop contributing. Another 7 percent don't know what they'll do.
