Wednesday, July 28, 1999 Schwab Promotes Five to Vice-Chairs Charles Schwab today announced that the new title of vice chairman will be held by the five executives who lead Schwab's primary areas of business -- John Philip Coghlan, enterprise president of services for investment managers and retirement services; Linnet Deily, president, Schwab retail group; Lon Gorman, enterprise president for capital markets and trading; Dawn Lepore, chief information officer; and Steven Scheid, executive vice president of mutual funds, consumer products, finance, brokerage operations, and corporate services. Schwab also announced the promotion of executive vice president of finance Christopher Dodds to chief financial officer. As CFO, Dodds continues to report to Scheid and to sit on the management committee. "As the people who oversee the vast majority of our business activities, our new vice chairs have critical roles in helping Schwab serve its customers and in charting our future," said Pottruck. "One of the keys to our success is our ability to thrive in a rapidly changing industry. Evolving the way we manage the business is a big part of that." Schwab's vice chairs sit on both its planning and management committees. They are joined on the planning committee, which concentrates on charting Schwab's longer term course, by Charles Schwab, chairman and co-CEO, Beth Sawi, who returns to Schwab from sabbatical next month as executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Daniel Leemon, chief strategy officer, Ed Valencia, enterprise president for international, and Pottruck.
