Wednesday, November 25, 2009 American Funds Shareholders Rebuff Darfur Proposal Investors Against Genocide fell short once again Tuesday in its bid to initiate genocide-free investing. Shareholders at American Funds rebuffed a proposal to eliminate investments possibly linked to Darfur in 16 of American Funds' 30 mutual funds. The proposal, which needed a majority shareholder vote to pass, received only a 12 percent vote in favor, according to the Associated Press. Earlier this year, Investors Against Genocide presented similar measures at other fund companies, including Fidelity and Vanguard, where they were also rejected.
