Friday, September 25, 2009 Old Mutual Unifies Distribution Under One Chief Matthew Appelstein just added more duties to his plate. The Old Mutual Asset Management executive vice president had overseen institutional sales and marketing, and now he's taken over retail and non-U.S. distribution, too. Appelstein confirmed that he's expanding the distribution team, totaling 20 to 25 team members. He added that he's part of the retail "triumvirate" at Old Mutual, alongside retail operations chief Julian Sluyters (president and CEO of Old Mutual Capital) and retail product chief James Mikolaichik (executive vice president and head of product, strategy and corporate development). Internationally, Appelstein and his team are looking to provide support to Old Mutual's boutique asset managers. "We're helping our affiliates distribute off-shore," Appelstein told The MFWire. "Most of the 18 boutiques [under the OMAM umbrella] don't have a directed sales effort internationally." A Fidelity veteran, Appelstein joined Old Mutual in 2003.
