An Ex-Seligman Data Employee Launches Mayoral Bid

A recently laid-off employee from Seligman Data Corp., the shareholder service agent for the Seligman Group of Funds, has made public his ambition to run for mayor of Lewiston, Maine, the Sun Journal reports.

"I think the past decades, Lewiston's gotten a raw deal and been made the butt end of jokes," the paper quoted Michael Dumas as saying. "We need to show the rest of the state that's not us, that we think better of ourself than that."

If he wins, Dumas, who turns 25 next month, would tie former Mayor Robert Couturier, who was in office from 1965-1966, as the youngest person to be in that post, the article stated.

According to the article, Dumas was recently laid off from his job at Seligman Data Corp. in Portland, and he is searching for a new job locally.

"But my first priority is the city of Lewiston," Dumas said. "Whatever I find, it will be built around my dedication to the city."

Ameriprise acquired J. & W. Seligman & Co. for $440 million in a deal that closed last November.
