Monday, June 22, 2009 WSJ Casts its Spotlight on Financial-Sector Funds An article in Saturday's Wall Street Journal took a look at the divergent fates of several different financial sector funds. The FBR Small Cap Financial and FBR Large Cap Financial funds, both under the guidance of manager David Ellison, were given mention for their recent return to bank holdings after they all but exited from their own sector last year. The Davis Financial fund was cited in contrast, having lost 45.6 percent in 2008 due largely to a hefty position in AIG. The FBR funds are among only a handful of financial-sector funds that held their losses under the double digit mark last year—the Burnham Financial fund headed by manager Anton Shutz, was also cited in the article as another example of the rare financial fund that managed to keep losses to just seven percent last year.
