McVey is Back in Morgan Stanley


Henry McVey is returning to Morgan Stanley later this month, stepping into the newly created role of head of global macro and asset allocation. McVey, who will have portfolio management duties and will also serve as strategist, will report to Stu Bohart, co-head of Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

McVey had served as Morgan Stanley's chief investment strategist before moving to Fortress Investment Group, a private equity and hedge fund shop, in June 2007 (see The MFWire, 06/11/07).

McVey was Morgan Stanley's stock analyst covering the asset management industry before crossing over to the investment management side of the house.

He first joined Morgan Stanley in 1993 as a research associate, and after completing his MBA in 1997, he rejoined the firm as a senior analyst covering asset management, brokerage and multinational banking stocks. He moved to the U.S. strategy group in 2004.

Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) announced today that Henry McVey, who previously worked at Morgan Stanley for more than a decade, is returning to the Firm as Head of Global Macro and Asset Allocation for Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM). Mr. McVey will have portfolio management responsibilities and oversight of MSIM's Global Macro and Asset Allocation investment team. He will also serve as MSIM's Strategist, with responsibility for articulating his market outlook and strategy to clients.

Mr. McVey, who most recently was a portfolio manager at Fortress Investment Group LLC, was Morgan Stanley's Chief U.S. Investment Strategist from 2004 to 2007 and a member of the Firm's Asset Allocation Committee. Mr. McVey will start his new role effective late June, reporting to Stu Bohart, Co-Head of MSIM.

Mr. McVey holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Morgan Stanley in 1993 as a research associate, and in 1997, after completing his M.B.A., rejoined as a senior analyst, covering asset management, brokerage, and multinational banking stocks. Mr. McVey moved into the U.S. Strategy Group in January 2004.
