An Ex-Employee Admits He Threatened to Hack a Fund Firm

Fundsters worried about what happens when they lay off computer specialists may want to take a look at MyCentralJersey.com (online home for the Courier News and the Home News Tribune). Ken Serrano reports that Viktor Savtyrev pled guilty Monday to threatening to hire Belarusian hackers to attack Third Avenue Management.

Savtyrev allegedly made the threats (by email and phone) after he and several other employees were cut loose by the New York-based fund firm in early November (see MFWire, 11/12/2008). The former systems analyst reportedly asked for extended medical benefits, a bigger severance package and "excellent references."
