On January 30, San Francisco-based Charles Schwab filed with the SEC to get the appropriate '40 Act exemption to launch its own exchanged-traded fund under the umbrella of the new Schwab Strategic Trust, tracking the Dow Jones U.S. Total Stock Market Index.
