Spitzer Dodges a Federal Bullet

Eliot Spitzer may walk his final scandal without ever being charged. On Thursday U.S. attorney Michael Garcia dropped the federal charges against the former governor and ex-sheriff of Wall Street, saying he "uncovered no evidence of misuse of public or campaign funds." While New York State law enforcement technically could choose to charge him for being a prostitute's client, legal experts told the Associated Press that such a prosecution would be extremely improbable.

The former attorney general, who made a name for himself chasing the market timing scandal, resigned in March after his fling with a high class prostitute came to light (see MFWire, March 10, 2008).
