Tuesday, October 30, 2007 ETNs Fall Under the Tax Man's Microscope Will exchange-traded notes continue to receive favorable tax treatment down the road? In today's Wall Street Journal Fund Track column, John Spence wrties that the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department are looking into the tax status of ETNs, which are close relatives of exchange-traded funds. Trade publication Fund Action earlier reported that the IRS and Treasury have discussed taking away the tax advantage of ETNs relative to ETFs.
