T. Rowe's Top Legal Eagle To Retire

Henry Hopkins, T. Rowe Price's chief legal counsel, plans to retire from the Baltimore fund firm in March, The Baltimore Sun reports. He will be succeeded by David Oestreicher. The 64-year-old Hopkins, whom T. Rowe Vice Chair Edward C. Bernard described as "sort of the dean of mutual fund law," plans to stay in Baltimore. Hopkins, who was a neighbor of T. Rowe founder Thomas Rowe Price Jr., wrote the firm's first code of ethics and went on to draw up policies on issues including whether mutual fund boards should be required to have independent chairmen and how to address soft-dollar arrangements.
