Pozen: MFS is Better Off Single

Months after Sun Life put MFS through a very public and fruitless dating process, Bob Pozen says there's no point in selling. In an interview with Bloomberg, the MFS chairman pointed to the fund family's recent performance as a reason to stay right where it is. Like a child with parents from "the Old Country," though, MFS may not have much of a say in who it ever ends up marrying. "We think there would not be a benefit to selling the company because we operate as a relatively standalone operation and do very well," Pozen insisted, noting a 50 percent increase in MFS' assets since the management change three years ago, as well as 66 percent jump in year-over-year earnings. "We're feeling pretty good about it."
