New Venue Set to Make this Year's ICI Special

This year's ICI General Membership Meeting kicks off today with the theme "Mutual Funds: Enduring Value for Investors."

The theme is represented throughout the panels that have been set up. "The keynote panel will address the competitive marketplace, a variety of alternative products, and a number of issues related to competition and the enduring value of mutual funds," Sandy West, head of membership for the ICI, told The MFWire

Unlike previous years, this year's general membership meeting will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park. The venue in the past was the Hilton Towers.

"There are only two hotels in Washington, D.C. that can handle a conference of this size," West said. "The attendees were also ready for a change of scenery."

Among this this year's major speakers are SEC Chairman Christopher Cox, who will give the keynote address, and Mary Shapiro, chairman and CEO of the NASD.

Other notable speakers include: Amvescap CEO and ICI Chairman Martin Flanagan; William Nutt, chairman of AMG; Mark Casady, president and CEO of LPL; Gordon Crovitz, publisher of the Wall Street Journal and Executive vice president of Dow Jones; and Keith Hartstein president and CEO of John Hancock funds.

More than 100 exhibitors are expected at the event.
