Hancock Taps Bank Channel Manager

John Hancock has promoted Mary Refior to vice president and national accounts manager of the Boston-based firm’s bank channel.

Refior, an 18 year-industry veteran, was most recently first vice president and regional sales manager for the Midwest region.

In her new position, she will create and develop relationships with existing bank key accounts that offer John Hancock’s wealth management products such as variable and fixed annuities, mutual funds, 529 plans and pension products. She will likewise be responsible for implementing product introductions with new bank relationships.

"By bringing her into our national accounts team, we will be able to extend John Hancock's bank expertise and know-how to many more banks," said Fred Nicholas, president of John Hancock’s annuities bank channel, in a statement.

It was not known whom Refior replaced, nor was it known who took over her former duties. A spokesperson did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Refior joined John Hancock in 1999, when the firm acquired Essex Corporation for expanded bank distribution. She previously spent four years at Essex’s Midwest division. Prior to that, she was a producing manager in a Midwest bank.
