Nuveen Investments met analysts' expectations by reporting diluted earnings per share of $0.41 for the third quarter, up from $0.38 for the second quarter.

Total assets under management for the Chicago-based money manager increased $5.0 billion from $101.9 billion at the end of the second quarter to $106.9 billion at the end of the third quarter.
Mutual fund assets increased 3.5 percent quarter over quarter, from $11.9 billion at the end of last quarter to $12.3 billion at the end of the third quarter.

Exchange-traded fund assets grew from $47.3 billion last quarter to $49.2 billion this quarter, an increase of $2 billion, or 4.2 percent.
