Alicia Keys Wows at Baron Conference

Reported by Max Viscio

Billionaire fundster Ron Baron had his annual fund conference today at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Alicia Keys brought down the house, but here's what else happened:

Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager, Trustee
The biggest speaker of the morning was Elon Musk, the triple threat wizard of space travel, solar power, and electric cars. On a CNBC appearance earlier in the day, Baron was bullish on Tesla's future and during his talk Musk talked about Tesla's plans to ramp production and cut costs in the coming years.

In addition to Musk's talk, two Tesla Model S cars were parked outside for attendees to see.

Other morning speakers included William Stone from SS&C Technologies, Joel Marcus from Alexandria Real Estate Equities and Jay Flatley from Illumina.

Lunchtime entertainment included Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Steve Martin and Michael Bublé.

The afternoon panel was moderated by Charles Schwab veteran Chris Dodds and included Baron Funds chairman, president and COO Linda Martinson as well as the following portfolio managers: Cliff Greenberg, Michael Kass, Jeffrey Kolitch, Michael Lippert, Andrew Peck, James Stone, Alex Umansky, Laird Bieger and Randy Gwirtzman.

Ron Baron joined the folks on stage and gave a talk on his investing philosophy. During the Q&A, he answered questions on unicorns (not a fan), and bringing in younger folks (would love to, but space is limited) and the 2016 election (he joked about Ben Carson's theory on the Pyramids).

Then the big star arrived: Alicia Keys, who put on a smooth performance that included a preview of her upcoming album coming out next year.
