This year, fundsters read up on the fate of the Hartford, actions of the SEC, and the movement of top executives. These are the top-read MFWire stories of 2012:

8) March 9 -- "Walt Brings One of Bob's Boys to Schwab"
A top fundster will take over the retail branch network for the brokerage giant.

9) June 4 -- "Did Pimco Say "No Vacays" and Tank the Stock Market?"
Some hedge funds pros and a guy from Minyanville are tweeting about what they heard at lunch on Friday.

10) February 14 -- "Three Firms Gobbled Half of Inflows in January"
Vanguard dominated net long-term mutual fund inflows last month.
