Fink Says He Still Studies Markets an Hour A Day

News summary by MFWire's editors

BlackRock's Larry Fink talks to McKinsey & Company about his own approach to leadership.

In the age of globalization, Fink said he thinks BlackRock "has a unique opportunity to become a true leader in the global capital markets."

Fink added that he "(thinks) as regulators force banks to have more capital, in many cases it may change the nature of how we think about banks."

The CEO and chairman said it is necessary to have a "greater global mind-set. It also means — and this is very difficult — that to truly be global, we have to be local in every country."

Asked about his personal approach to leadership, Fink said he is still a student:
"One thing I try to tell BlackRock citizens worldwide — and I gave a speech to our new incoming class of 230 young hires just yesterday — I said to them, 'Here I am running this company not quite 25 years. And I still spend an hour a day studying the world and the markets.' And if it’s not an hour, it’s an hour and a half a day."
Fink also said that a strong culture was important to building a trustable brand.
