Speca Says Goodbye to Manulife

Reported by Armie Margaret Lee

Bruce Speca is no longer with Manulife. Speca, who served as the head of the portfolio solutions group at Manulife Asset Management (formerly MFC Global Investment Management), retired from the company last Friday, according to an SEC filing.

Speca could not immediately be reached for comment.

The portfolio solutions group is in charge of Manulife's asset allocation offerings for indviduals and institutional investors globally.

Speca was one of the PMs on John Hancock's alternative allocation fund, lifecycle and lifestyle portfolios, among other investment products. Bob Boyda, Steven Medina, Steve Orlich and Scott Warlow will continue to manage the funds.

Before joining Manulife Asset Management in 2010, Speca was chief investment officer of John Hancock Investment Management Services. He has been with the Manulife organization since 2003.

Previously, he worked at Pioneer Investments and earlier, he ran MutualFunds.com, a startup whose investors included former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Before that, he was president and CEO of New England Funds, which later changed its name to Nvest Funds, now known as Natixis Funds.

In 2009, The MFWire.com named Speca one of the 50 Most Influential People in Fund Distribution. Click here to see his profile.
