Bessemer Names Chief

by: Sean Hanna, Editor in Chief

John A. Hilton, Jr. has been elected as the new president and chief executive officer of Bessemer Trust. The nine-year veteran of the New York City-headquartered firm takes the posts on October 1. Hilton had been chief operating officer of the firm in charge of client service and support since March of this year.

Bessemer is known for its expertise in providing investment management and other services to the affluent market. It was also one of the first family offices.

Hilton succeeds Frank E. Helson who has held the posts on an interim basis since October of 2000. Helson will continue to advice the firm after he sets aside his day-to-day duties, according to the firm.

"Over the course of his career with Bessemer, John's strategic sense and client focus have helped further enhance our position in the wealth management business," said Stuart S. Janney, III, chairman of Bessemer Trust. "He has a deep understanding of our firm, our clients and our commitment to providing conflict free advice."
