Vanguard Prepares Employees for the Real Thing

News summary by MFWire's editors

If you happened to be in the neighborhood of The Vanguard Group’s offices on Chesterfield Parkway in Malvern, Pennsylvania and saw a HAZMAT team outside, resist the urge to call your local news team. At 3 pm today Vanguard began an emergency response drill to prepare employees in the event of a real emergency.

An emergency response exercise has begun at The Vanguard Group’s offices on Chesterfield Parkway in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Vanguard would like to emphasize that this is not an actual emergency.

The exercise began at 3:00 pm and is expected to be completed by 7:00 pm. More than 30 individuals are participating in the exercise, including members of the Chester County HAZMAT Team, Tredyffrin Township Police Department, East Whiteland Police Department, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, Paoli Hospital, Liberty Property Trust, and Vanguard employees.

These organizations have a long history of preparing for emergency situations. This exercise is consistent with each groups’ commitment to ensuring that they have developed the necessary contingency plans and are prepared to face an actual emergency.

The Vanguard Group, headquartered in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, is the nation’s second largest mutual fund firm and a leading provider of company sponsored retirement plan services. Opened in 1993, the Malvern campus now has 10 buildings on 200 acres, and is within miles of 16 more Vanguard buildings located in the area. Chester County’s largest employer, Vanguard manages nearly $1.3 trillion in U.S. mutual fund assets, including more than $325 billion in employer-sponsored retirement plans. Vanguard offers more than 140 funds to U.S. investors and more than 40 additional funds in foreign markets.
