Schiffman Picks Legg's Next U.S. Marketing Chief

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

A top marketing alumnus from OppenheimerFunds is taking over U.S. marketing at Legg Mason [profile].

Matt Schiffman, global marketing and U.S. retail distribution chief at Legg, confirms that Diane Frankenfield (nee Mondress) joined Baltimore, Maryland-based Legg yesterday as head of U.S. marketing. MFWire could not immediately reach Frankenfield herself for comment on the move.

Frankenfield's move comes after Dave Master, Legg's head of U.S. marketing and global strategic marketing, moved to Janus last year. At the time, Schiffman divided the global strategic marketing duties between seven other Legg executives. Legg spokeswoman Maria Rosati confirms that the division of the global strategic marketing duties will remain thusly divided, while Frankenfield, based in Stamford, Connecticut, will focus specifically on U.S. marketing.

In a statement, Schiffman praises Frankenfield for having "proven throughout her career that she can develop highly effective programs to drive sales growth" and for her "extensive sales-driven background."

Frankenfield's LinkedIn profile says that she spent four years at OpFunds, first as senior vice president of digital strategy and customer experience, and then as senior vice president of marketing, before leaving in August, 2013. A year ago, she joined Leerink Partners, a Boston-based firm that calls itself "the healthcare investment bank," serving as managing director of marketing before leaving last month.

An alumnus of Penn State and of Bentley College's business school, Frankenfield previously worked at Monster.com parent Monster Worldwide, the Boston Globe, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
