An Ex-Employee Slaps Suit Against Putnam Over Her Termination

News summary by MFWire's editors

A former Putnam Investments [see profile] employee filed suit against the company over her termination from the Boston mutual fund firm in 2008, according to an article published in the Patriot Ledger.

The plaintiff, Christine Caloia, alleges that the firm committed a breach of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act by retaliating against her. She claims that after she took time off to recover from spinal fusion surgery, she was assigned routine tasks and was not allowed to continue to work from home, though other workers are frequently allowed to so.

Caloia, who worked at Putnam for 26 years, also says her firing was done in a way to deprive her of 12 months of severance pay, according to the article.

A Putnam spokesperson told the pub that the case is without merit and that the company intends to defend itself vigorously.

Caloia filed the complaint in Norfolk Superior Court last November. Last week, the case moved to Boston federal court.
