Simple Alternatives, which plans to make its entry into the alternative mutual fund space this fall, has hired Bruce MacDonald as chief investment officer. MacDonald was previously director of asset allocation and risk analysis at the University of Virginia Investment Management Company.

New Canaan, Connecticut-based Simple plans to roll out a multi-manager hedged-equity alternative mutual fund in October.
