Denver-based
Cambiar Investors is expected to announce a deal to leave the
United Asset Management family in the next few business days. The firm's management is buying the shop from UAM parent
Old Mutual. The opportunity arose after Old Mutual's management game UAM execs market to focus on building the business of its core asset managers.
Cambiar offers just one small $3.5 million fund, the Cambiar Opportunity Fund. It also manages about $2.5 billion in institutional assets.
The buyout will leave Cambiar's current management with a majority stake in the business, according to a source at the firm. That source revealed that discussions between Old Mutual and Cambiar management have been going on for some time and the closing of the deal awaits completion of legal documents.
