Reported by Tamiko Toland

Rydex has brought on Dawn Kahler as vice president of marketing and communications. She replaces Nancy McCarthy who, according to the firm, left two months ago to do independent consulting work.

Kahler comes from the Wiesenberger division of Thompson Financial, where she had been a senior vice president of marketing. She had spent seven years there before leaving for the position with Rydex. Prior to that, she worked for the Rushmore Funds.

At fund tracker Wiesenberger, Kahler was able to check out her future employer in detail, but performance wasn't the only asset.

"They always have top performing funds, so that's definitely an attraction. It does make it easier, but one of the things that makes it so easy being here is that it's an innovative company that's not afraid of trying new things," she said. "One of the reasons why it's exciting to be back at this particular fund company is, differentiation is the name of the game in the marketing, and Rydex is very distinctive."

Kahler plans to expand the marketing department, but she's still unsure by how much. Right now, she supervises five people in both marketing and public relations.

"I think that the main impetus behind it is to have more of a strategic outlook," said Kahler. "Traditionally, Rydex is a very strong sales organization that's built itself on a tremendous sales ability. Now they want to build a marketing department that's on par with that sales team."

Kahler reports to Rob Steele, executive vice president of marketing and product development at Rydex.
