Scudder Weisel, the jont venture between the fund firm and the investment bank, has adopted the new era's penchant for fast growth. To fuel the growth, the San Francisco-based firm has turned outside for many of its 81 employees. It is also adding to its worker rolls at a quick pace.
The marketing team already has eight members, according to
Shelly Porges, chief marketing officer. She expects to build the team out somewhere from 18 to 20. Porges says that she is looking both within and without the fund industry to fill the open slots.
Porges herself joined the firm from
Third Age Media, where she was executive vice president of marketing. Prior to that position she was at American Express and the retail marketing area of Bank of America.
Also joining the firm from Bank of America is
Kelsey Ashford. Others already onboard are
Damon Pham, director of strategic information, who came from VentureOne, and
Kim Kellogg who is handling public relations.
The firm is distributing through intermediaries and its wholesale efforts are headed by
Erich Gerth, chief of distribution. Gerth joined the firm from Goldman Sachs where he headed alternative sales for the firm's Western region. Gerth is also looking to add to his wholesale team said Porges.
Porges also said that the firm is expanding the staff at its advisory center in La Jolla, California. It is seeking series seven holders, and CPAs to support the advisor channel and work in the posh San Diego community.
