Union Bank of California, has hired
Robert Barry
as national sales director. Prior to joining HighMark
Funds, Barry was vice president of mutual fund sales and national sales manager,
RIA Division, at
Stein Roe Mutual Funds.

American Skandia closed the
AST Janus Small-Cap Growth Portfolio and the
ASAF Janus Small-Cap Growth Fund to new investments effective January 19, 2000. The AST Janus Small-Cap Growth
Portfolio is offered as an investment option in variable insurance products
issued by American Skandia while the ASAF Janus Small-Cap Growth Fund is a
retail mutual fund, subadvised by Janus.

U.S. Senator William Roth of Delaware, of Roth IRA fame and the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee joined officials and employees of
PFPC today to commemorate the creation of the Roth IRA. Roth, who led the retirement reform debate in 1996, called for the increase of the $2,000 contribution amount to $5,000.
