Fund execs stand behind 17(a)

The WSJ picks up the story of the disagreement between the fund industry and the Securities Industry Association as to whether rule 17(a) should be relaxed to allow broker-delears to trade some securities with affiliated asset managers. The paper notes that fund executives are nearly unaminous in their support for the rule.

Marla Brill explores the strategy of Bernice Behar, manager of John Hancock Emerging Growth fund. The fund is a small cap stock fund. Behar has minimized the fund's exposure to Internet stocks and remains well-diversified limiting holdings to 1.4% of the fund.
