Schwab says they have settled claims from some customers who tried to cancel orders for shares in the fast-rising initial public offering of Theglobe.com Inc.

Fleet Financial Fleet Financial Group Inc. announced that it was considering a public offering for its Internet brokerage, Suretrade, seeking to capitalize on the explosive growth in on-line investing, according to The Boston Globe.

Citigroup Inc., the world's biggest financial services firm, said Thursday that it plans to use salespeople in its 400 U.S. bank branches to market mutual funds and other investments, says The Los Angeles Times.

Researchers at discount brokerage firm Charles Schwab & Co. conclude that there are specific blends of index funds and so-called actively managed funds that have the best chance of accomplishing a goal held by many investors: minimizing a portfolio's risk of lagging behind the market, while increasing its probability of outperforming it, in today'sWall Street Journal
